$10K/$20K Cancellation

On June 30, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of right-wing state officials in Biden v. Nebraska, formally blocking President Biden’s plan to use emergency powers to cancel up to $20,000 for student loan borrowers in the wake of the COVID-19 emergency.

Following the Supreme Court's decision, President Biden announced that he intends to create a new program to provide borrower relief under the Higher Education Act.

In the meantime, the President has also announced plans to restart student loan payments on September 1, 2023, after a more-than-three-year pause in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
